![]() ![]() Chitrakoot district in Uttar Pradesh was created on 4 September 1998. The region is included in the Chitrakoot district of Uttar Pradesh and the Satna district of Madhya Pradesh. Chitrakoot region falls in the northern Vindhya Range spread over the states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Geography Ĭhitrakoot means the 'Hill of many wonders'. The ancient Indian sages, including Atri, Agastya, and Sharabhanga, were said to have meditated in the forests of Chitrakuta. The forests of Chitrakuta is where Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana took refuge and spent 14 years in the woods, which was already home to several hermits. Noted ' Ayurvedic' and ' Yoga' centres like 'Arogyadham' are located in Chitrakoot.Ĭhitrakuta, identified with modern Chitrakoot, is one of the important places connected to the epic Ramayana, where Rama is persuaded by his brother Bharata to return to Ayodhya and where Rama performed the last rites of his father Dasharatha in presence of all the gods and goddesses. It attracts pilgrims throughout the year on occasions such as Amavasya, Somwati Amavasya, Deepavali, Sharad-Poornima, Makar Sankranti, Rama Navami and for Free Eye Care Medical Camps. It is known for a number of temples and sites mentioned in Hindu scriptures. The city lies in the historical Chitrakoot region, which is divided between the present-day Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. It borders the Chitrakoot district in Uttar Pradesh, whose headquarters Chitrakoot Dham is located nearby. Connected to the Indian epic Ramayana, it is a place of religious, cultural, historical and archaeological importance, situated in the Bundelkhand region. The journey ended with lots of fun yes it was a short span of time because we had others destinations too. In the pool below the falls, swimming is permitted and paddle boats are permitted. In the low flow season, paddle boats are used in pools formed in the upstream part of the falls. Water flow conditions over the falls vary with the seasons. Chitrakoot is a single sheet of flow over a free fall of about 30 meters (98 ft) forming a horseshoe-shaped gorge. This resort is just in front of the fall its a bliss for the impatient people like us.Īs we already had the bookings we just went and dropped our luggage and went on to see the beauty which was just in front of us such big huge & gigantic waterfall barely we could hear anything in its noise. After a long journey, we reached to Jagdalpur the main spot Chitrakoot falls is situated in the west 50 km from jagdalpur.įrom Jagdalpur we headed directly towards Chitrakoot coz we knew about the beautiful Dandami Luxury Resort which was our destination for a stay. Instead of 6 to 7 hrs, it took us nearly 10 hrs to reach. As we had the opportunity to explore we made this journey long & time taking by enjoying different stoppages in between like Keskal Ghati and awsome Dhabas etc., which made this journey even greater. The journey started with lots of zeal & enthusiasm. Via NH 43 the journey mode we selected was by an SUV so that we can enjoy the beauty of Bastar region to the fullest. We started from Raipur & the distance between Raipur & Chitrakoot falls is 297.6 Km. Positioned at a height of about 100 feet, Chitrakoot Falls are the largest waterfalls in India. The Chitrakoot waterfalls appear to be in the shape of a horse-shoe.
